Things you should know about today's game...
1) The Rays scored their first run in the fifth inning when Matt Duffy, who led off that inning with a double, came home to score on a ground ball by Wilson Ramos. Amed Rosario was unable to throw out Duffy at home on that play, and instead opted to throw out the runner at first. Tampa Bay struck again in the eighth when former Met Carlos Gomez drove in Daniel Robertson with an RBI single, then Ramos plated Joey Wendle in the ninth for the Rays' third run.
2) Matz managed to work around leadoff hits in each of the first two innings as he struggled to get in a rhythm. He walked two batters in the first and hit Rays pitcher Blake Snell in the second inning. Still, he limited the Rays to one run while the Mets' offense provided no run support. The left-hander tied a season-high with 110 pitches, marking the second time in three starts that he has thrown 110 pitches.
3) Brandon Nimmo led off the first inning with a double and Wilmer Flores led off three different innings with hits, but the Mets never could drive them in. The team went 0-for 7 with runners in scoring position in the game. Asdrubal Cabrera and Michael Conforto each had one hit and Jose Reyes hit a pinch-hit double.
4) Snell pitched 7 1/3 scoreless innings and struck out nine batters in the process. Sergio Romo shut down the Mets in the ninth inning to earn his ninth save of the season.
