Ron Baker has found a new home in the NBA.
The Wizards are signing Baker and releasing Okaro White, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Baker was the casualty of the Knicks' extending a two-year deal to undrafted G Allonzo Trier last week. The Wichita State product played just 11 games with New York this season, averaging 1.3 points and 1.2 assists over 9.7 minutes per game.
Despite not being a big factor during his career with the Knicks, Baker was always a fan favorite for his constant hustle, and of course, his signature shaggy haircut. Upon his departure, head coach David Fizdale said this was the hardest cut he ever had to make.
"This was the hardest one I've ever been part of," Fizdale said, according to Marc Berman of the New York Post. "Cutting Ron Baker was really rough. I talked to him today. He was fantastic. He's Ron Baker. He's a pro. He totally understood where we were. Obviously it goes without saying we're resources to him. If anyone ever calls me on him I'll have nothing but incredible things to say about him. I even joked to him a little bit when he's finally done, spend some time with me and I may have a coach on my hands there."
With Washington, Baker's time on the floor likely won't increase as John Wall and Bradley Beal man the backcourt. But, just as he did with the Knicks, you can bet he'll be going 100 percent when he gets his first shot in his new threads.
