Every Monday, we'll be taking a look at how the Yankees' top prospects (their MLB.com Yankees Top-30 rankings are in parenthesis) are faring.
Estevan Florial, OF, High-A Tampa (No. 1, MLB No. 47) -- ETA 2021
Florial picked it up this past week, going 8-for-24 with two home runs and eight RBIs. Florial is now slashing .229/.287/.381 across 115 plate appearances.
Albert Abreu, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 3) -- ETA 2020
Abreu followed up a rough start on July 2 (2/3 IP, 5 R, 0 ER, 4 H, 1 BB & 2 K) with a strong effort Sunday (6 IP, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 H, 3 BB & 6 K). Abreu touts a 3.83 ERA in 75 1/3 innings this season.
Deivi Garcia, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 4) -- ETA 2020
Garcia had a very interesting week. After allowing three runs in four innings on seven hits and three walks on July 1, the 20-year-old made the start for the American League team in the MLB Futures Game Sunday evening. Garcia hurled a 1-2-3 inning with one strikeout and after the game word came out that he would be promoted to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Garcia has now flown through two levels this season with a collective 3.01 ERA with 114 strikeouts in 68 1/3 in-nings between High-A and Double-A.
Anthony Seigler, C, Low-A Charleston (No. 6) -- ETA 2022
Seigler's slump continued this week, recording just three hits in 21 at-bats. Seigler has just two extra-base hits in 67 at-bats this season, but he has drawn more walks (19) than he's struck out (15) this season.
Everson Pereira, OF, Class A Short Season Staten Island (No. 7) -- ETA 2022
Pereira hit his first home run of the season Sunday, but he is still hitting well under the Mendoza line (.171). Pereira has 26 strikeouts and just four walks in 74 plate appearances.
Trevor Stephan, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 8) -- ETA 2020
Stephan made an abbreviated start Sunday, tossing two innings of scoreless ball. Stephan was coming off a three-run effort over 3 1/3 innings in his previous start as he tries to turn around what has been a very disappointing season thus far.
Antonio Cabello, OF, Rookie Advanced Pulaski (No. 9) -- ETA 2022
Cabello is in the midst of a four-game hit streak in which he hit his first two home runs of the season. Cabello is a free-swinger, striking out 23 times and walking just twice in 68 plate appearances.
Roansy Contreras, RHP, Low-A Charleston (No. 10) -- ETA 2022
Contreras allowed two runs on five hits and one walk in six innings of work, but took the loss against Greenville. Contreras owns a 4.48 ERA in 78 1/3 innings.
Nick Nelson, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 11) -- ETA 2020
Nelson had a great week, tossing six innings of one-run ball with 11 strikeouts on July 2 and then notching a victory in relief on Sunday in which he threw three scoreless innings. Nelson's ERA stands at 3.47 in 36 1/3 innings with Trenton.
Luis Gil, RHP, Low-A Charleston (No. 13) -- ETA 2022
Gil made two starts this week, each lasting five innings. Gil allowed one run in the first game and four in the second, striking out seven and four batters respectively. Gil possesses a tidy 2.25 ERA in 75 innings for the RiverDogs this season.
