The Knicks got lucky to get the No. 1 pick in 1985 and have the chance to draft Patrick Ewing. Now, they'll hope Ewing can be their good luck charm.
After Ewing alluded to it in an interview, he confirmed Friday that he will indeed represent the Knicks at next month's NBA Draft Lottery with the Knicks having a chance 34 years later to take another transcendent star at No. 1 in Zion Williamson.
The Knicks finished with an NBA-worst 17-65 record, are guaranteed a top-five pick and have a 14 percent chance at landing the top pick in this summer's NBA Draft.
Ewing was the clear big prize in 1985 and became a Hall of Famer. As the Knicks enter this summer armed with enough cap space to sign two max free agents, they have a chance to turn their franchise around, and their hopes could be boosted if they're able to get Williamson.
Perhaps Ewing can pass the torch to the consensus No. 1 pick.
