A day after adding Walt Perrin as assistant GM, Knicks president Leon Rose has made another front office addition.
New York is hiring Frank Zanin in a front office role, league sources confirmed to SNY's Ian Begley.
Zanin had been working as a scout for the Oklahoma City Thunder since 2016, and has also worked as an assistant GM for the Brooklyn Nets.
Zanin started his career in the NBA in 1999 as a scout for the Philadelphia 76ers, where he worked until 2008. He joined the Nets as a scout in 2010, later serving as their assistant general manager from 2013-2016.
In addition to Perrin and Zanin, Rose has hired Brock Aller from the Cleveland Cavaliers in an executive vice president role that will cover a wide range of areas for the Knicks. Rose has also retained Scott Perry as his general manager for the 2020-21 season.
It is also possible that the Knicks retain current front office exec Allan Houston.
News of Zanin's hire was first reported by The Athletic.
Other front office rumblings
League sources tell Begley that Knicks front office members Harold Ellis, Gerald Madkins, and Craig Robinson remain under contract through August, and that no decision has been made regarding their futures with the team. However, opposing executives would be surprised if Robinson is retained. Robinson, who was hired by former team president Steve Mills, played with Mills at Princeton. Madkins and Ellis were hired by GM Scott Perry.
Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News reported Tuesday that Ellis, Madkins, and Robinson would not be retained.
