On Wednesday, Jets owner Christopher Johnson told reporters that head coach Adam Gase will be returning for the 2020-21 season, despite the team's current 2-7 record.

Many players were pleased to hear this news, especially second-year quarterback Sam Darnold, who spoke to media during Thursday's press conference.

"I think if everything works out how it's supposed to, and Adam's here again, I think that would be absolutely amazing," Darnold said. "Already going into OTA's and knowing the whole offense, and even being able to build off of things we've already done this year. It would be incredible."

In six games this season, Darnold has thrown for 1,307 yards with seven touchdowns and nine interceptions. He has improved in his completion percentage from his 2018 rookie campaign, going from 57.7 percent to 63.2 percent in 2019.

Switching head coaches for the 2020-21 season would give Darnold his third different head coach -- and offensive playbook -- in three seasons. Darnold seemed excited to know Gase will be back next season, and expressed his confidence in the decision.

"I think it was definitely important for him [Johnson] to come out publicly and say it," Darnold said. "But I also think that most of the guys on the team, if not the whole team, already had that much confidence in coach Gase and knew Christopher's confidence in him."
