Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes ran on Thursday and will do so again on Friday before potentially moving on to the next step toward his return, manager Mickey Callaway said.

Cespedes, who has been out since May 14 while dealing with hip/groin/heel issues, has also been practicing at first base, though Callaway said the expectation is that he'll return as a left fielder.

The 32-year-old Cespedes played two rehab games with Binghamton in June before suffering a setback, with the Mets later classifying his health issue as chronic.

Cespedes is hitting .255/.316/.474 with eight home runs and 28 RBI in 37 games this season.
