With the international free agent signing period opening up on Monday, the Yankees are expecting to land several prospects including RHP Osiel Rodriguez and C Antonio Gomez.
The Cuban Rodriguez is the No. 5 ranked international prospect, according to Baseball America. At just 16 years old, Rodriguez' arsenal on the mound includes an overpowering fastball that has clocked at 96 mph.
Rodriguez is not allowed to sign until after July 2 when he turns 16.
The Venezuelan Gomez, who signed with the Yankees for $600,000, has a 1.83 pop time. He is considered the third-best catcher out of the Top 50 prospects list, while landing at No. 14 overall.
The Yankees have also been linked to OF Kevin Alcantara who, like Rodriguez, is not allowed to sign with a team until he is 16. Baseball America ranks him No. 15 overall from the Dominican Republic.
New York has also signed No. 43 RHP Denny Larrondo ($550,000, Cuba), No. 48 C Agustin Ramirez (Dominican Republic), OF Mauro Bonifacio (Dominican Republic), RHP Juan Carela (Dominican Republic), SS Maikol Escotto (Dominican Republic), and SS Marcos Cabrera (Dominican Republic).
