The Mets made a move with the Astros last week. Could New York do so again with one of Houston's top players?
After the Mets traded for CF Jake Marisnick last Thursday, they "have had dialogue" with the Astros regarding SS Carlos Correa, SNY's Andy Martino reported Wednesday.
Correa, 24, slashed .279/.358/.568 with 21 home runs and 59 RBI in 75 games. He missed most of his 2019 season due to injury, between a fractured rib that cost him 50 games and late-August back discomfort.
Correa returned in time for the Astros' deep postseason run, fueling Houston's charge into Game 7 of the World Series before ultimately falling to the Washington Nationals. Correa had three home runs and nine RBI in the playoffs.
An All-Star in 2017 at the age of 22, Correa was the No. 1 overall pick in the June 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Puerto Rico. Through 546 games in five seasons from 2015-19, Correa slashes .277/.356/.489 with 102 home runs and 372 RBI.
Like Marisnick, who was in Houston from 2014-19, Correa was on the Astros' 2017 World Series championship team with former OF Carlos Beltran, who is now the Mets' manager. The Mets are set to return 23-year-old Amed Rosario, who slashed .287/.323/.432 with 15 home runs and 72 RBI in 157 games, as the everyday SS.
