Agent Brodie Van Wagenen is headed for a job as the head of baseball operations for the Mets.
There are many details to work out, including what his offical title will be. A source said Van Wagenen will likely be named "GM," but either way the job is the same -- he'll be in charge of baseball ops and the deal won't be official until next week.
Expect the Mets to introduce Van Wagenen, who had his second-round interview Monday, at a news conference at Citi Field no sooner than Tuesday. The timing will depend on when the World Series ends.
The 44-year-old was given the nod over Rays SVP of baseball operations Chaim Bloom, who interviewed with Mets ownership a second time on Wednesday.
The Mets also seriously considered former Brewers and Rangers GM Doug Melvin for the job before ultimately narrowing their search to Van Wagenen and Bloom.
