Speaking to reporters Wednesday night for the first time in over a week, Warriors star Kevin Durant ripped the media's recent coverage of him -- coverage where many speculated his silence had to do with the Knicks recently opening up two max free agency slots for this summer.
Durant had been largely silent since the Knicks traded Kristaps Porzingis, and recently went on a Twitter liking spree of users who were bashing an article that connected his silence to his pending free agency and the Knicks.
When Durant broke his silence on Wednesday night, he didn't hold back.
"Why do you care? I ain't feel like talking the last couple of days," he told reporters when asked why he had been so quiet.
When asked if his silence had anything to do with free agency, Durant said "That's the conversation you gonna have. I don't think about that type of stuff. That's your job."
"It's unnecessary," Durant said when asked if the free agency noise was getting louder. "You got a dude Ethan Strauss who come in here and just give his whole opinion on stuff and make it seem like it's coming from me. ... now y'all piling on me because I don't want to talk to y'all about that."
The 30-year-old Durant has long been rumored as a Knicks target, and his brother has been among those dropping hints that this could be his last year with Golden State.
Since the Porzingis trade, the Knicks have become highly confident they'll be able to land Durant this summer, and are reportedly planning to keep recently-acquired DeAndre Jordan to try to help with the recruiting process.
Unprompted during Wednesday night's talk with reporters, Durant sounded off on the rumors connecting him to the Knicks.
"I have nothing to do with the Knicks. I don't know who traded Porzingis. They got nothing to do with me. I'm trying to play basketball. Y'all come in here every day. Ask me about free agency. Ask my teammates, my coaches, you rile up the fans about it. Let us play basketball. That's all I'm saying. And now when I don't want to talk to y'all, that's a problem on me. Come on, man. Grow up. Grow up."
Durant went on to explain that he just wants to come in and play the game the right way, and wondered aloud what was wrong with that.
Asked again why he has been silent lately, Durant was blunt.
"I just don't trust none of y'all. Every time I say something, it gets twisted up and thrown out in so many different publications. Try to tear me don with my words that I say. So when I don't say nothing, it's a problem. I just want to play ball. I want to go to the gym and go home. That's all. Is that a problem? Alright then."
When one of the reporters finally asked a question about basketball, Durant wrapped things up.
"I'm done! I know you don't care about that," he said while getting up and walking out of the press conference room.
