The Jets went into the draft with three major holes and only really filled one of them in their six picks. However, they did a good job of bringing in players with upside that added depth and filled ancillary needs after the first round.

After the draft, Mike Maccagnan indicated that the team will continue making efforts to improve the roster. He suggested they will be looking at the remaining unsigned free agents, anticipating cuts from other teams and may be even looking at some trade possibilities.

Starting Center

The first of the unaddressed needs was at the starting center position, where Jets fans have less faith in the incumbent Jonotthan Harrison than the team seems to have. Rumors suggest that Garrett Bradbury might have been a target for the Jets if they traded back in the first round, but he was gone in the top 20 while the two other projected Day One starters were picked in the second round.

While they might have opted to draft a lesser prospect, it would have been uncertain as to whether that player would provide a short-term upgrade or long-term value so they might revert to the veteran market instead.

The Jets met with veteran Stefan Wiesniewski before the draft and the fact the Jets opted not to draft a center could make him amenable to signing a deal. Wiesniewski would provide the team with comfort as he's been an effective starting center in the past, although he played at guard with the Eagles over the past three seasons because Jason Kelce had the center spot locked down.

Alternatively, one of the teams that drafted a center could make their current starter available by trade. The Packers have Corey Linsley entering the second year of a three-year, $25 million deal and may be keen to save money. As another option, the Vikings - who drafted Bradbury - could be willing to move recent third-rounder Pat Elflein. Elflein arguably had a worse year than Harrison did in 2019 though.

Starting Cornerback

While the Jets re-signed Darryl Roberts, many fans were hoping they'd draft someone who could start ahead of him, but they didn't select a cornerback until the sixth-round. That selection - Blessuan Austin - isn't a candidate to start as he's still rehabbing a knee injury. Once again, there are rumors that the Jets were looking to trade into position to select one, possibly in the second round, but it didn't work out that way.

While the Jets may still be hoping that young players such as Derrick Jones and Parry Nickerson could yet establish themselves as solid contributors to add depth, a veteran starter would provide security. One possibility is Morris Claiborne, who could return for a third year as a Jet. Maccagnan didn't rule this out on Saturday, although he noted that Claiborne is also rehabbing an injury.

Once again, the Jets might find some players becoming available because their team has drafted their replacement. There was some speculation that the Giants would make Janoris Jenkins available after they drafted some reinforcements over the weekend but, for now, it looks like he'll stay put. The Jets will monitor the situation closely though, as Jenkins played some of his best football in Gregg Williams' defense with the Rams.

Safety Depth

The Jets reportedly picked up a couple of undrafted free agents at the safety position, but may want a more established veteran presence, especially in light of Marcus Maye's recent durability issues. Doug Middleton and Rontez Miles are currently the most likely candidates to be the third safety, but Williams may prefer someone with more experience.

Players like Roberts and Brian Poole may be capable of playing the position in a pinch but, as things stand, they'll both be required in the cornerback rotation so this could be worth paying attention to.

Wide Receiver Depth

While some draft experts felt that one of the Jets' primary needs was for a number one receiver, it's apparent the Jets have faith in Robby Anderson to be that guy. However, they don't have a lot of depth beyond the first three of Anderson, Quincy Enunwa and new signing Jamison Crowder.

As things stand, Deontay Burnett, Charone Peake and Josh Bellamy will battle it out for roles with some inexperienced youngsters, so it seems likely they'll look to add a more established veteran presence into that mix.

Competition at Placekicker

Finally, the Jets haven't yet opted to bring in any competition for placekicker Chandler Catanzaro which, given the fact that they let Catanzaro walk last year, seems likely at some point.

It seems less likely they'll bring in someone to challenge Lac Edwards, who seems secure in his punter role, but another camp leg is a possibility.
