While the Giants already have several names of interest for their head coaching vacancy, one name is reportedly off the board as they get deeper into the search to replace the fired Pat Shurmur.

In fact, that person will now face the Giants twice a season as an NFC East division rival.

The Washington Redskins are hiring former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera on a five-year contract, according to a Tuesday report from Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The 57-year-old Rivera went 76-63-1 overall in eight-plus years and reached Super Bowl 50 with the Panthers before Carolina fired him Dec. 3, amid the team's 5-7 start to the 2019 season.

For the Giants, the list of candidates starts with Baylor head coach Matt Rhule, who is the early favorite, as SNY's Ralph Vacchiano reported Monday.

General manager Dave Gettleman is scheduled to meet the media Tuesday at 11 a.m. for the first time since July.
