Mike McCarthy is among the candidates to become the next head coach of the Giants. Here's the latest...

Jan. 6, 10:02 AM:

The Giants can cross off one head coaching candidate, but will definitely be seeing him down the road.

According to FOX's Jay Glazer, Mike McCarthy has agreed to terms to be the Cowboys' next head coach. This news comes just one day after Jason Garrett was officially relieved of his duties after leading Dallas for over a decade.

Jan. 6, 8:57 AM:

McCarthy is already reaching out to potential assistant coaches, having recently contacted a candidate to be his running backs coach, according to Jane Slater of the NFL Network.

Additionally, an agent who has multiple clients in the coaching search believes the Cowboys are done looking and have made their decision, according to Michael Lombardi of The Athletic

McCarthy reportedly met with the Cowboys over the weekend, and the team officially parted ways with Jason Garrett on Sunday.

Jan. 4, 11:14 AM:

McCarthy is reportedly on his way to Dallas to speak with the Cowboys, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Though the Cowboys have not yet announced anything regarding the status of Jason Garrett, his contract is set to expire this month and it's been widely reported that he is not expected to return.

Jan. 3, 4:10 PM:

The Giants completed their interview with McCarthy on Friday afternoon, the team announced.

He met with team president John Mara, GM Dave Gettleman, vice president of football operations Kevin Abrams, and other staff members.

Jan. 2, 8:20 AM:

McCarthy's interview with the Giants will take place on Friday, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN.

According to Schefter, McCarthy's interview with the Browns is happening on Thursday.

SNY's Ralph Vacchiano reported on Wednesday that McCarthy's candidacy appears to have "a little more steam than expected."

McCarthy, who was head coach of the Packers from 2006 to 2018, interviewed with the Jets for their head coaching job last offseason before it went to Adam Gase.

Dec. 31, 8:47 AM:

Former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy will interview with the Giants this weekend for their vacant head coaching job, SNY's Ralph Vacchiano confirmed.

The Giants have also requested to interview Ravens DC Don Martindale, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, who says Martindale would try to bring OC Joe Brady with him if he got the Giants job.

McCarthy and Martindale join Baylor head coach Matt Rhule, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels, Chiefs OC Eric Bieniemy, and Cowboys DB coach Kris Richard as known candidates for the position.

Jason Garrett could also be of interest to the Giants. But while he is expected to be relieved of his duties by the Cowboys, he is still in limbo.
