Mets manager Mickey Callaway dropped some big news that Jed Lowrie, who hasn't played with the Mets at all this season due to various injuries, was starting a rehab assignment with High-A St. Lucie on Tuesday night.
And it looks like he's moving around pretty well, finishing the night 1-for-4 with an RBI.
This is some of the first footage we've seen of Lowrie in action this season, as he's seen running out a ground ball to first base.

Now Lowrie was only serving as the St. Lucie Mets' DH tonight, as the Mets are easing him back. Callaway made sure to say this is a day-to-day situation, not necessarily a scheduled rehab assignment.
"It's still a situation where it's gonna be day-to-day, obviously, but for him to get on the field and get his blood flowing in a big situation for him to this point is exciting," Callaway said. "I think we'll just see how he comes out of it and then make the schedule out the next day."
The 35-year-old Lowrie, who suffered a "low grade" right calf strain in July while rehabbing, has also dealt with knee and hamstring injuries to his left side this season.
As far as Lowrie returning this season, Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen said "it's absolutely our hope and expectation that he can."
