With Taijuan Walker wearing No. 99 for the Mets, he becomes the second Met ever to don the number and the first since Turk Wendell did so from 1997 to 2001.

Wendell is happy about the development and has sent Walker a gift to recognize it.

"It's awesome. I mean, let's be honest. My number is not retired, I wasn't some superstar player. I sure as hell ain't a Hall-of-Famer," a chuckling Wendell told SNY during a 2000 Mets reunion for an upcoming episode of Like We Never Left. "As a token of passing the torch, I actually made him a necklace and sent it to him yesterday."

On Thursday, Walker received the necklace (and other gifts). Check it out:

During his tenure with the Mets, Wendell -- an avid hunter whose mound presence included slamming the rosin bag down to psyche himself up -- wore a necklace that featured teeth of the many animals he had hunted.

As far as how Walker ended up with No. 99 over No. 00, SNY's Andy Martino recently got to the bottom of that. And the saga involves Mr. Met.
