Even when Mets RHP Jacob deGrom doesn't earn a win, he still proves he's a Cy Young contender. And sometimes, even a Silver Slugger contender.

DeGrom struck out six batters and allowed one run and two hits in six innings in a no-decision Monday against the Dodgers, driving in the only Mets run before he was taken out of the game at 109 pitches.

It's been well documented at how well deGrom has pitched, evidenced by his league-leading 1.68 ERA, despite the fact he only has eight wins this season. (And many have made the case at how overrated a statistic the win is.)

In deGrom's eight wins, he has an ERA of 0.97, but even when he doesn't, he still shows he can be one of the premier pitchers in the game.

Including Monday, when he left in a 1-1 game heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, deGrom has pitched in 12 no-decisions. And in those games, he has a 1.41 ERA with 96 strikeouts in 76 1/3 innings. Even in his eight losses, he has a 2.73 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 56 innings.

DeGrom allowed a solo homer to Justin Turner in the first inning Monday, but pitched around two Mets errors to keep the Dodgers off the board from that point.

At the plate, though, deGrom had two hits and an RBI for the second straight game, lining a RBI single to right field in the fifth inning off Alex Wood to drive in Jay Bruce and tie the game at 1.

DeGrom is only hitting .167 this season, which pales in comparison to fellow Cy Young contender Max Scherzer (.278), however his five RBIs put him in a tie with Scherzer and three other pitchers for third in the National League among pitchers. (Jon Lester and Tanner Roark both have eight RBIs.) When it comes to OPS, deGrom's .389 puts him at No. 17, far behind German Marquez's league-leading .673 OPS.

OK, so maybe deGrom isn't a favorite for a Silver Slugger. But he's proved he is a strong candidate for the NL Cy Young Award.
