Every Monday, we'll be taking a look at how the Yankees' top prospects (their MLB.com Yankees Top-30 rankings are in parenthesis) are faring.
Deivi Garcia, RHP, Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (No. 1, MLB No. 64) -- ETA 2020
Garcia failed to get through the fifth inning in either of his two starts this past week. He allowed two runs in both contests, walking four and striking out nine batters in 8 1/3 combined innings.
Estevan Florial, OF, High-A Tampa (No. 2, MLB No. 67) -- ETA 2021
Florial has one hit in his last 14 at-bats after his six-game hitting streak came to an end. Florial is hitting .233 with a .292 on-base percentage and .377 slugging percentage with six home runs and 30 RBIs in 57 games for Tampa.
Luis Gil, RHP, High-A Tampa (No. 4) -- ETA 2022
Gil struck out four batters in four shutout innings in his last start, but he couldn't go further as he walked four batters in the process. The free passes, his lone issue at Low-A Charleston, are still plaguing him as he's walked eight batters in 13 innings since he arrived in Tampa.
Clarke Schmidt, RHP, High-A Tampa (No. 5) -- ETA 2020
Schmidt followed up a seven-inning scoreless start in which he struck out nine batters, with a complete dud surrendering seven runs in three innings. Schmidt possesses a 3.84 ERA in 63 1/3 innings with Tampa this season.
Albert Abreu, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 7) -- ETA 2020
Abreu made two abbreviated starts this past week, as he works his way back from injury after missing close to two months. Abreu allowed three runs in two innings in the first effort and one run in three innings in the second. His ERA in 87 2/3 innings sits at 4.00.
Roansy Contreras, RHP, Low-A Charleston (No. 13) -- ETA 2022
Contreras' strong run continued with a fantastic seven-inning performance in which he allowed just one run on a solo home run. Contreras struck out a season-high 10 batters in the contest. Maybe more importantly, he made it through his second start without walking a batters (13 combined innings).
Alexander Vizcaino, RHP, High-A Tampa (No. 14) -- ETA 2022
Vizcaino surrendered three runs on six hits and two walks in a no-decision Friday. Vizcaino's ERA at Tampa (23 innings) jumped to 3.13 after compiling a 4.41 mark with 101 strikeouts in 87 1/3 innings at Charleston.
Nick Nelson, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 15) -- ETA 2020
After putting together an impressive 2.35 ERA in 65 innings with Trenton, Nelson received a pro-motion to Triple-A, but did not fare well in his debut. In five innings, Nelson allowed four runs on five hits and two walks.
Trevor Stephan, RHP, High-A Tampa (No. 16) -- ETA 2019
Stephan earned his way back to Trenton and put together a solid effort, allowing one run on five hits and two walks in five innings. Stephan struck out seven in the outing as he continues to re-verse a terrible beginning to the season.
Michael King, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 20) -- ETA 2019
In his first game back with Scranton since last season, King was touched for five runs on six hits, including two home runs in six innings. King has yet to find his way after missing the first three months of the season after dominating in 2018 (1.79 ERA in 161 1/3 innings across three levels).
