Trades between the Mets and Yankees are rare, but if the Yanks make the strongest offer for Zack Wheeler, the Mets would have no issues sending him across town, according to major league sources.
Although the Mets are historically cautious about helping their rivals in the Bronx -- most recently, trades for Jay Bruce, Lucas Duda and Neil Walker fell through -- word around Citi Field is that Brodie Van Wagenen has the go-ahead to accept the best offer. If it comes from the Yankees, so be it.
Relations between the two teams unfroze a bit during the offseason, when Van Wagenen and Brian Cashman discussed a blockbuster Noah Syndergaard trade. Although that deal fizzled, both GMs insisted that they had initiated a new era of Yankees/Mets relations.
