Mets LHP Steven Matz will be pushed back from Thursday to Saturday due to a blister on his left middle finger, reports Kristie Ackert of the NY Daily News

The Mets announced late Wednesday night that Jason Vargas -- who was supposed to be skipped this turn through the rotation -- will pitch Thursday night against the Diamondbacks in Arizona, followed by Seth Lugo on Friday. Zack Wheeler will pitch on Sunday.

Matz had recently been dealing with a slight strain of his middle finger.

The strained finger forced Matz to exit his start on May 29 after just 3.0 innings, but he didn't miss either of his next two starts -- tossing a combined 13.0 innings against the Cubs and Yankees.
