Whether the Phillies doling out $118 million for five years of Zack Wheeler turns out to be an overpay or not, one thing that is certain is that Wheeler fleeing the Mets for a division rival that is trying to leapfrog them is bad for New York.
Shortly after Wheeler agreed to sign in Philly, Noah Syndergaard weighed in -- happy for his friend but conflicted -- as he posted on Twitter:
"Quick Tale: You have this friend which you want the best for. He leaves, and gets his (money). You should/want to be happy for him, but he is now an enemy because he went to the land of enemies.I finally understand the emotion of this meme"

Speaking at the Mets' kids holiday party on Wednesday at Citi Field as the Wheeler-to-the-Phillies rumors were swirling, J.D. Davis and Brandon Nimmo weighed in on the potential of losing one of their best pitchers to an NL East foe.
"Yeah a little bit," Davis said when asked if Wheeler going to Philly would be concerning. "He knows all of us hitters really well. He's a great pitcher, great stuff. I wish the best for him, I hope the Mets can get him back on our side. We'll see how it goes, but yeah, if he goes to Philly that's a little problematic."
Nimmo was similarly concerned, but said the whole NL East is stacked pitching-wise.
"Yes" he deadpanned with a laugh about being worried. "He's a great pitcher. But guess what, this whole division is stacked with pitchers. ... It's just gonna be tough day in and day out. That's just the way it is."
