5 takeaways from Tuesday's game...

1) The bats were hot to kick off this Subway Series stint. The Yankees put together 15 hits with five players collecting multi-hit games.

2) Luke Voit sparked the Yankees' five-run fourth inning that allowed them to pull away from their crosstown rival. He belted a three-run homer that was followed up later in the inning by Gio Urshela, who hit a two-run bomb off Zack Wheeler as well. Voit finished the day 1-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Urshela went 3-for-4 with four RBI that includes an RBI double later in the game.

3) Masahiro Tanaka didn't have his best start of the season, but he managed to go pretty deep once the yankees took the lead. His biggest mistake was a Jeff McNeil three-run back in the top of the second that put the Mets ahead early. However, he didn't allow a run after that. Overall, he allowed four runs, five earned on seven hits while striking out seven and walking none over 6.2 innings for the win.

4) The Yankees should be happy with how Didi Gregorius has returned to the plate. He had another solid day, going 2-for-5 with one run scored. He's hitting .429 on the season, but needs a little work on his defense. Kendrys Morales had the error charged to him, but Gregorius had a bad throw to first. He did, however, make a diving play later in the game that saved a run.

5) The Yankees conserved their bullpen for Game 2, thanks in part to Tanaka, but also to Tommy Kahnle and David Hale. Kahnle finished the seventh for Tanaka, and Hale had two scoreless innings to end the game.
