Five takeaways from Thursday's Game 1...

1) J.A. Happ was looking to continue his hot streak on the mound lately, and though it wasn't the scoreless innings he posted in his last two outings, it was a decent start for the lefty. Over 4.2 innings, Happ allowed two runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out six. He also let up one homer in his 99-pitch start.

2) The long ball was the source of the early lead for the Yankees, thanks to two two-run homers from Luke Voit and Edwin Encarnacion. Voit's went to dead center in the top of the first for his 20th blast of the year, while Encarnacion raised the parrot with a blast to left.

3) Speaking of Encarnacion, he actually had to leave today's game with a left oblique strain. Depending on the severity of the strain, Encarnacion could be out some time heading toward the end of the regular season. It took Aaron Judge quite some time to get fully healthy after his oblique strain earlier this season.

4) Voit was the best Yankee at the dish today, as he added another RBI on a single in the eighth. He was 3-for-5 with three runs scored as well on the day.

5) Austin Romine also had a solid day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and a walk. Judge went 1-for-2 with three walks and four runs scored, a team high in that category.

The Yankees play the second leg of their doubleheader with the Tigers. CC Sabathia makes his first start since returning from the IL, but it won't be for long. Domingo German will come in relief after he's finished.
