The Yankees selected outfielder Spencer Jones with the No. 25 pick in the 2022 MLB Draft.
The left-handed Vanderbilt product is a towering 6'7" -- like two current Yankees outfielders -- and was the 51st prospect in MLB.com's rankings for this year's draft.
In his third season with Vanderbilt, Jones played 61 games and slashed .370/.460/.644 with 12 home runs and 60 RBI. Jones was named second team All-SEC this year and has seen his production at the plate improve each year he's been at Vanderbilt.
Jones was once a two-way prospect, even being drafted by the Angels in 2019, but he decided to return to Vanderbilt. However, after undergoing two major arm injuries while pitching -- once in 2019 and another in 2020 -- he would primarily become a hitter this past season where he excelled.
With his pitching days behind him, Jones has developed into a power-hitting outfielder with some of the highest exit velocities in this year's draft class.
