Infielder T.J. Rivera is the latest Mets infielder to deal with an injury as he said he felt discomfort in his elbow.

"I had a little discomfort," said Rivera, who missed the 2018 season due to Tommy John surgery, "so I'm just trying to make sure that I'm almost back to 100 percent before I go out there in a game and speed things up and go out there and compete consistently."

Rivera, 30, said he hadn't had any issues this spring and that the discomfort "just popped up."

"I've been feeling great up until I had a little discomfort recently," he said. "It's not lingering. I haven't felt anything. It's nothing serious, but since it's early in the spring, I'm trying to ease off on it so I can get ready to play some games."

Rivera last played in 2017, when he slashed .290/.330/.430 with five home runs and 27 RBIs in 73 games. He was initially expected back last May, but appeared in six rehab games with High-A St. Lucie and Triple-A Las Vegas before suffering a setback in July.

"It's definitely not in the same pain," he said. "It's just a little discomfort. Before, I felt like I couldn't really do much baseball-wise in July when I had that, but right now, I wouldn't say it's that similar. I'm not concerned about it; I'm just trying to be aware in making sure my arm's ready to go so I can compete on a daily basis."

He said he's still participating in baseball activities, which is a positive sign for him.

"I have the extension [in the elbow]. It's moving the way I want it to move," Rivera said. "It's just a little bit of aches and pains in there and trying to get past it."

Rivera is one of several Mets infielders dealing with injuries.

Todd Frazier went back to New York for a cortisone shot for an oblique strain and is unsure how much time he will miss. Jeff McNeil was scratched from Wednesday's lineup due to a scraped left wrist. And Jed Lowrie could miss Opening Day after he was diagnosed with a capsule sprain in his left knee.
