Now the head coach at Southern Connecticut State, Scott Burrell enjoyed a nine-year NBA career as a player, winning a title with Michael Jordan and the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls.

But for Burrell, it all started at UConn, where he helped the 1990 Huskies capture their first ever Big East title.

In a conference that was loaded with talented teams, UConn came out of nowhere to win it and earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament. And building UConn's winning foundation for years to come is what Burrell remembers most fondly about his time with the program.

"First Big East Championship in UConn history and it was a great thrill," Burrell said. "It helped propel the program to where it is today. A lot of people forget about those days, but it had to start somewhere, someone had to build it, and I'm glad to be a part of something being built and to leave a legacy at UConn.

"We were supposed to come in last place in the Big East my freshman year. We ended up coming in first place against Derrick Coleman and Alonzo Mourning and Billy Owens. We shocked the world by turning that Big East Conference around and keeping UConn on top after that."
