A few Mets hit the long ball on Friday afternoon, but the Marlins' offense was too potent in a 10-3 loss at First Data Field. >> Box score
Five things to know about Friday's game...
1) Noah Syndergaard got the start for the Mets, and though it began well, the ending didn't have the same result. Syndergaard allowed four runs, three earned on six hits including two long balls -- one three-run jack from former Met Neil Walker and a solo shot from JT Riddle. Though Miami made the best his mistakes, Syndergaard struck out eight along the way with his slider looking good.
2) Jeff McNeil entered the game without a hit this spring, but he collected his first leading off in the bottom of the first and it was a solo homer to right field. He also got his cardio in the outfield, as he almost came up with a nice catch on the warning track. McNeil may not have caught the deep ball, but his began a quick relay that kept the runner from scoring.
3) Robinson Cano, who has been raking for the Mets this spring, hit his first homer in the bottom of the fourth -- a shot to right-center that was a no-doubter off the bat. He would finish his day 2-for-2 with a walk.
4) Seth Lugo wasn't helped much by the Mets' defense, who made four errors on the day. Lugo allowed four runs, but only one was earned on three hits while striking out four over 1.2 innings. Walker hit another homer off a hanging Lugo curve.
5) Top prospect Andres Gimenez had a solid day playing shortstop for the Mets throughout this one. He went 2-for-3 at the dish with his first homer, a solo bomb to right. He also had some nice plays in the field, though he did collect an error on a ball up the middle that he bobbled. He made up for it, though, with a nice diving play to get a force out at second base.
