SNY's Andy Martino will be responding to and breaking down answers to Mets questions from readers. Here's the latest...

What are the odds that Freeman becomes a Met? And if he does, how do you think Alonso would feel about moving to the DH position? -- @Master16Rooster

When I posted this call for questions, the inquiries about Freeman poured in so quickly that it seemed as if many of you had them pre-typed. This is clearly the topic of the day.

To answer this particular one, I’ll say that the odds are close to zero that Freddie Freeman will become a Met in 2022. I actually want to say zero, but have lived long enough to understand that the universe can surprise us. But no, he’s not signing there.

This topic began because of a credible report by ESPN’s Buster Olney, one of the best in the business, that the Mets had “checked in” on Freeman. Buster was not reporting or implying that they would sign him.

I can simply add the context that anything that did happen failed to progress on any level. It would be truly stunning -- beyond stunning -- if that changed.

Look at Freeman and the Yankees as more concrete. And the Mets did talk quite a bit about free agent starting pitcher Yusei Kikuchi just before the industry decided to stop existing.

To the second part of this question, Pete Alonso has said publicly, “I’m not a DH.”
