We’re still over two months away from the 2021 NFL Draft, and there’s no doubting that rumors will continue to swirl and pick up steam as the draft approaches.

The big question for the Jets is how they will handle their quarterback situation. Will Sam Darnold stay? Will they draft a quarterback at No.2? Could they move that second pick and more to acquire an established star like Russell Wilson or Deshaun Watson?

If landing a star like Wilson or Watson is the route the Jets decide to take, they’d likely have to surrender a king’s ransom of picks and perhaps a young player or two as well, with former first-round pick Quinnen Williams rumored as a name teams may want.

Williams touched on the recent trade rumors in an interview with CBS Sports Radio, saying he wants to stay in New York to have the opportunity to play for newly hired head coach Robert Saleh.

“I’d be disappointed. … I really want to be a Jet for life,” Williams said. “I like New York, and I want to play in New York and everything like that, so I’d be disappointed if they traded me. … It’s a business, man, and whatever’s best for the organization, I want to do whatever’s best for the organization.

“I just handle what I can handle, just control what I can control. Just go out and work as hard as I can and play for the team that I’m on. Hopefully it’s the Jets so I can play with Coach Saleh, but anything that comes along, I just work my hardest so that when that comes around I can be the best player I can be.”

Along with Williams, Darnold has been the other player on the Jets’ roster involved in these offseason rumors. If the Jets do choose to go in another direction under center, Darnold figures to be an attractive name on the trade market.

And while it’s not Williams’ call as to whether or not Darnold stays, he gave his current starting quarterback a glowing review.

“It’s out of my control, but I feel like Sam Darnold is a great leader, a great athlete, a great player, and makes some amazing throws, some amazing decisions when he’s got the ball in his hands,” Williams said. “I’m excited for whatever happens.”
