Giants GM Dave Gettleman is on the record that he's seriously considering trading back from No. 4 in the 2020 NFL Draft. And recent reports, including from SNY's Ralph Vacchiano, are that Big Blue is angling to trade back.
Are they actually trying to trade up to No. 3 instead?
With the Lions holding the No. 3 pick, they have "made plans" to draft at No. 4 or No. 5 (where the Miami Dolphins currently are), according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, who reports that the Dolphins have "a degree of confidence" that they'll be able to swing a deal.
While nothing can be discounted on its face, this screams as if it could be the Lions trying to scare the Dolphins into giving them more for the No. 3 pick.
And this could all have to do with the "Big Four" offensive linemen.
For a while, it was thought that if the Dolphins had their eyes on a quarterback with the first pick. It now seems like they could have their eyes on an offensive lineman instead.
The Dolphins have been "gauging the price" they would take to acquire the No. 3 pick from the Lions, where they would potentially take one of the "Big Four" offensive linemen, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Vacchiano has heard from sources who believe the Dolphins want a tackle, noting that Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa could surprisingly slide in the draft if Miami is not locked in on taking a quarterback.
If the Giants don't trade up, the Dolphins going for an offensive lineman early could have an impact. But unless the Giants trade out of the top 10 entirely, they should be able to snag one of the "Big Four" -- though perhaps not the one graded the highest on their board.
The expectation remains that QB Joe Burrow will go No. 1 to the Cincinnati Bengals, with DE Chase Young almost certainly going to the Washington Redskins at No. 2. After that, the belief was that the Lions would take CB Jeff Okudah at No. 3. But with the Dolphins poking around and the Lions open for business, things could be about to change.
