The Giants entered free agency with very little to spend. They needed to cut veteran guard Kevin Zeitler just to get under the $182.5 million salary cap. And even then, they only had about $3 million.

Since then, they somehow became one of the NFL’s biggest spenders.

In what has been a weeks-long game of salary cap gymnastics, the Giants somehow managed to find the cap space for two huge free-agent contracts – receiver Kenny Golladay’s $72 million contract and cornerback Adoree’ Jackson’s $39 million deal. Along the way they got one player to take a pay cut (tackle Nate Solder) and two players to restructure their contracts (linebacker Blake Martinez and cornerback James Bradberry).

And they might not be finished yet.

So after all that, how much salary cap space do they actually have left?

Here’s a look at the contracts they’ve given out that SNY obtained from NFL sources, plus a look at the cap room they were able to clear. At the end is an estimate of what the Giants have left – though keep in mind some important contract information is still unknown.

How much cap space do the Giants have left?

They started with about $3 million to spend and then added $15.2 more, thanks to Williams and Solder, and then cleared another $7.5 million with Bradberry and Martinez, giving them a total of about $25.7 million in cap space to use.

Since then, they’ve spent roughly $31.2 million in cap space signing or re-signing 13 players – though again, keep in mind the details of several contracts (including Adoree’ Jackson’s) are still unknown.

Remember, the salary cap only counts the Top 51 players, so for each of the 11 new players the Giants have signed, one player is removed from the list. Those players are roughly worth about $9.5 million in total cap space.

That would leave the Giants with about $3.5 million in cap space remaining.

They will likely need about $3.5 million in space for their 2021 draft class, though they won’t need that money until those picks actually sign. There are other moves the Giants could make to clear more space, including restructuring the contract of WR Sterling Shepard or perhaps a late cut or two of a veteran player.
