Mets prospect Brett Baty has been promoted from the GCL Mets to Rookie level Kingsport after playing just five games at his first professional spot.
The 19-year-old Baty hit .350/.480/.650 with one homer and three doubles in five games (20 at-bats) for the GCL Mets.
The Mets officially introduced Baty over the weekend at Citi Field. As a 19-year-old senior, Baty could move a bit quicker than some of the younger high school prospects drafted, but it will still be a while before he reaches Citi Field.
"He is a player with tremendous power," Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen recently said. "This was a player that's important to us, this is a player that we have a lot to look forward to. We feel like he can make an impact with his bat and we feel like he can be a player that's a part of our future sooner rather than later.
"I can't say enough about our scouting staff. We saw Brett early and often this spring, and virtually every important person from a scouting standpoint saw Brett play ... A lot of people spent a lot of time in getting this selection right."
"This is just a great organization to be a part of, and I'm so happy that I'm a Met," Baty said. "New York is an amazing place and an amazing city. It's just an amazing atmosphere and I can't wait to get up here."
Along with Baty, the Mets recently inked third-rounder Matthew Allan (who dropped from the top half of the first round due to signability concerns) and second-round pick Josh Wolf.
