Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes will see a foot specialist and undergo an MRI next week, the Mets announced. Cespedes was not in the lineup Saturday and is unlikely to play on Sunday for the second consecutive day after returning from the DL on Friday.

After his return Friday night, Cespedes revealed that he will likely need heel surgery at some point, as calcification in both heels is the root of his other leg injuries.

"I've realized that the cause of my problems are my heels," he said through an interpreter in his postgame interview on Friday. "Because when I feel some pain in my heels, I started to modify my walking way, my running way, or even my standing. That's the main reason why I'm having these problems in my legs."

The veteran outfielder added that surgery is the only way to fix this issue, and the expected recovery time is 8-10 months.

When prompted with the quotes on Saturday morning prior to the Mets' game against the Yankees, manager Mickey Callaway said he was unaware of what Cespedes told the media the night prior.

"I'm not quite exactly sure what he said," Callaway said Saturday prior to the Mets game against the Yankees. "I just know he came in pretty sore today."

The 32-year-old was out since May 14 with a strain in his right hip flexor before returning for one game Friday. He entered tonight's contest with a .262/.325/.496 slash line over 38 games this season.

When filled in with the news, Callaway offered empathy for Cespedes.

"That's concerning," Callaway said. "I feel bad for the guy. He has worked so hard. If you see the stuff he has to go through to get back -- he worked so hard this winter. We talked about everything that he tried to do to put himself in a good spot to come out and be healthy for the team. I feel for the guy because he's done everything he possibly can to stay healthy. It's just not happening for him."
