Every Monday, we'll be taking a look at how the Yankees' top prospects (their MLB.com Yankees Top-30 rankings are in parenthesis) are faring.
Estevan Florial, OF, High-A Tampa (No. 1, MLB No. 47) -- ETA 2021
Florial played in just three games last week, going 2-for-12 with six strikeouts and zero walks. In nine games this season, Florial is hitting .250 with a .351 on-base percentage and .401 slugging percentage.
Albert Abreu, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 3) -- ETA 2020
Abreu turned in a solid effort in his most recent start, tossing six innings of one-run ball. Abreu struck out eight batters and allowed just three baserunners. In his last 16 innings (three starts), Abreu has given up just two runs, which has helped lower his ERA to 3.79 in 59 1/3 innings.
Deivi Garcia, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 4) -- ETA 2020
Garcia walked four hitters for the second straight start, but he could not keep his opponent off the scoreboard this time around, coughing up four runs in 5 2/3 innings. Garcia, had been extremely effective in terms of control before his last two starts, and now owns a still impressive 3.15 strikeout to walk ratio in 53 2/3 combined innings between High-A Tampa and Trenton.
Anthony Seigler, C, Low-A Charleston (No. 6) -- ETA 2022
Seigler, the Yankees' 2018 first round pick (No. 23 overall) arrived in Charleston from extended spring training this past week and got off to a hot start for the RiverDogs. In 25 plate appearances, Seigler collected seven hits (two doubles) along with six walks and scored five runs.
Trevor Stephen, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 8) -- ETA 2020
Stephen was touched up for six runs in four innings to take the loss in his latest start. In 37 1/3 innings, Stephen possesses an unsightly 6.27 ERA and batters are hitting .280 against him this season.
Roansy Contreras, RHP, Low-A Charleston (No. 10) -- ETA 2022
Contreras couldn't replicate a dominant effort from his previous start, instead taking the loss in a four-inning, five-run effort. Contreras allowed 13 hitters to reach base (nine hits and four walks), and saw his ERA rise to 4.57 and his WHIP was elevated to 1.30 in 63 innings this season.
Nick Nelson, RHP, Double-A Trenton (No. 11) -- ETA 2020
Nelson had another fine effort this past week, tossing five scoreless innings in which he allowed four hits and a walk, while striking out five hitters. Nelson will take a 2.45 ERA (18 1/3 innings) with Trenton into his next start.
Luis Gil, RHP, Low-A Charleston (No. 13) -- ETA 2022
Gil was tremendous in his two starts last week, even keeping pace with Dallas Keuchel, who was on the opposing side in Monday's start. Gil tossed seven scoreless innings in that outing, while racking up 10 strikeouts. In Sunday's outing, Gil allowed one run in five innings and generated eight strikeouts. Gil's ERA sits at 1.81 across 59 2/3 innings.
Luis Medina, RHP, Low-A Charleston (No. 14) -- ETA 2022
Medina, building on a strong start the week prior, turned it up a notch. Medina hurled six shutout innings, allowing zero hits and just two walks, while striking out three batters. Medina has now walked just four batters in his last two starts, which is a vast improvement over the rate in his previous 35 innings in which he handed out 41 free passes.
Garrett Whitlock, RHP, Double-A Trenton Thunders (No. 16) -- ETA 2019
Whitlock allowed one run on five hits and two walks in six innings in a hard luck loss. The effort marks the third straight outing in which Whitlock has surrendered just one run in six innings, help-ing to lower his ERA to 2.87 in 53 1/3 innings.
Chance Adams, RHP, Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (No. 20) -- ETA 2019
Adams, who was used as the Yanks' 26th man in last week's doubleheader against the Mets, wasn't quite as effective in his last start as he had been in his previous two as he lasted just 4 2/3 innings in which he allowed two runs on six hits and two walks. Adams did strike out seven batters in the game.
