The Yankees could not give CC Sabathia a victory in addition to reaching 3,000 strikeouts as Zack Greinke dominated Yankees hitters in a 3-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. >> Box score
5 takeaways from Tuesday's game
1) Sabathia became the 17th pitcher to join the 3,000 strikeout club with five strikeouts against the Diamondbacks with his strikeout of former Yankee John Ryan Murphy in the second inning. He finished with five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings on Tuesday night, allowing just two earned runs on five hits as he rebounded from his worst start of the season.
2) Sabathia could not, however, get the win despite his strong start. That is because Greinke kept the Yankees hitters off-balance the whole night. The Diamondbacks ace allowed just one run on five hits while striking out seven over 7 2/3 innings of work in the offense's worst performance of their nine-game road trip.
3) Gary Sanchez appears to be finding his groove. After blasting two home runs in San Francisco, the Yankees catcher lined a double down the left field line in the fourth inning off Greinke and scored the Yankees' lone run in a 1-for-4 day at the plate.
4) Gleyber Torres extended his hitting streak to seven games with another multi-hit day, going 2-for-4 with an RBI.
5) Jonathan Holder was able to work out of bases loaded jam in the sixth inning by getting Nick Ahmed to ground into a double-play right back at the pitcher. He tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings but Zack Britton did not fare as well, allowing a run in his inning of work on Tuesday.
