Five takeaways from Thursday's game...

1) Masahiro Tanaka had his best start in over a month, allowing just one earned run and four hits over 7.0 innings. The righty struck out six and walked none, however, he did allow a home run for the fourth straight game. It was the first time that Tanaka had allowed less than two earned runs in a game since he threw a scoreless seven innings against the Seattle Mariners on Aug. 27.

2) DJ LeMahieu gave the Yankees an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with his 25th home run of the season. The three-run homer gave LeMahieu a total of 97 RBI on the year.

3) Brett Gardner hit his 26th home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo shot to extend the Yankees lead to 4-1. It was Gardner's 67th RBI this season, passing his previous single-season high of 66 RBI from 2015. The outfielder added to his RBI total with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning, giving the Yanks a 6-1 lead.

4) Outfielder Cameron Maybin launched a solo home run into center field in the bottom of the eighth inning, he now has nine homers this season. Later in the eighth inning, Clint Frazier joined in on the fun, hitting his 12th home run of the year.

5) Aaron Boone becomes the first manager in MLB history with 100 wins in his first two seasons. It also gives the Yankees their sixth 100-win season since 2000, and their first consecutive 100-win seasons since the team did it three years in a row from 2002-2004.

The Yankees will begin their final home series of the regular season when they host the Blue Jays on Friday night, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. LHP J.A. Happ (12-8, 5.07 ERA) will get the start for the Yankees against RHP Jacob Waguespack (4-5, 4.70) for the Blue Jays.
