Five takeaways from Saturday's game

1) Things started well for CC Sabathia as he began the day with three scoreless innings. But he gave up two runs in the fourth which tied the game, and then surrendered a two-run homer to Oscar Mercado in the fifth, allowing Cleveland to take a 4-2 lead. Sabathia finished the inning and then his day was done. He allowed seven hits and a walk while striking out eight.

2) Jonathan Holder took over in the sixth and gave up back-to-back homers, a two-run shot by Roberto Pérez and a solo homer by former Met Kevin Plawecki. Holder's ERA jumped to 4.88 in 31.1 innings. Luis Cessa gave up a run in the eighth.

3) Didi Gregorius certainly doesn't seem rusty. After going 2-for-4 Friday in his return from Tommy John surgery, he cracked a two-run home run in the first inning to get the Yankees on the board.

4) Unfortunately for the Yanks, after they had two hits off Cleveland's Adam Plutko in the first inning, they managed only one more against him. Plutko had allowed eight runs in two MLB starts this season and 13 runs in four Triple-A starts. Plutko retired 16 of 17 batters at the end of the sixth inning.

5) After having his 11-game hitting streak snapped Friday night, DJ LeMahieu went 2-for-4 with a run scored. His average for the season is up to .320. LeMahieu started at first base for the third time in his career. He, Gregorius and Gleyber Torres (1-for-4) had all the Yankees' hits until Clint Frazier doubled with two outs in the ninth.

What's next

The Yankees finish their road trip Sunday against Cleveland at 1:10 p.m. With Masahiro Tanaka going on paternity leave, the Yankees' starter is TBD. They'll likely have a bullpen game. Shane Bieber is set to go for the Indians. The Yanks then head home for the Subway Series.
