Five takeaways from Saturday's game...
1) Gary Sanchez made his return from the Injured List with a bang, literally. In a scoreless game in the top of the fourth inning, Sanchez stayed back on a Jacob Waguespack slider, slamming a solo home run to left-center. Sanchez's 25th home run of the season put the Yankees on top 1-0. Overall, Sanchez went 1-4 at the plate with a couple of strikeouts.
2) Chad Green gave the Yankees another solid opening appearance, tossing a scoreless first inning. Stephen Tarpley was the next man out of the pen, and he allowed a couple of runners to reach base in the fourth before being pulled for Chance Adams. The right-hander allowed a three-run shot to Teoscar Hernandez, giving the Jays a 3-1 lead.
3) Gio Urshela answered back for the Yankees. In the top of the sixth, Urshela, once thought of as more of a purely defensive talent, crushed his 17 home run of the season, tying the game 3-3.Urshela now has six home runs in his last five games.
4) DJ LeMahieu broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the seventh. With runners on second and third, LeMahieu hit a sac fly to right to give the Yankees the lead. With a runner on third and less than two outs, LeMahieu has scored the runner 16 out of 19 times, a whopping 84 percent. LeMahieu leads the Yankees with 80 RBI on the season.
5) Adam Ottavino could not hold the lead in the seventh inning. With two runners on, Ottavino allowed Vladimir Guerrero Jr. triple just inside the first base bag. The righty did settle down to strike out Randal Grichuk and Justin Smoak to end the inning.
