The Yankees beat the Red Sox, 4-1, Friday night at Yankee Stadium. >> Box score

Four takeaways from Friday's game...

1)  DJ LeMahieu has been a key component to the Yankees this season and he was a major contributor tonight. LeMahieu roped an RBI-double off the wall in the third inning and then a solo home run in the fifth inning. LeMahieu, who also made another stellar play at second base, is hitting a fabulous .317 on the season.

2) Aaron Hicks ripped a two-run single in the three-run third inning. If Hicks is going to continue to hit third until Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton return, those are the types of hits that the Yankees center fielder will need to record.

3) J.A. Happ didn't provide much length, but considering he had a difficult time staying ahead of batters (just 47 of his 84 pitches were strikes,) the end result was welcomed by the Yanks. Happ allowed just one run, on a solo homer off the bat of Rafael Devers. Happ's final line - 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 2 BB and 5 K - is one the Yanks will take start after start compared with some of his earlier efforts this season.

4) The Yankees' bullpen was once again completely dominant. Adam Ottavino, Tommy Kahnle, Zack Britton and Aroldis Chapman hurled four scoreless innings, allowing just three base-runners while striking out four batters.
