Five takeaways from Friday's game
1) James Paxton generated 17 swings and misses, but he couldn't get through the sixth inning. Paxton finished with seven strikeouts, however he walked three batters and was never fully in command of the strike zone. Though he allowed just one run in this one, some of Paxton's efforts simply feel like there is something missing.
2) Gary Sanchez homered for the third-straight game, pulling him into a tie for the American League's home run lead (23) with teammate Edwin Encarnacion. Sanchez has 12 RBIs in his last six games, 19 in June and leads the club with 52 for the season.
3) Not to be outdone by Sanchez, Gleyber Torres launched a home run in his third-straight game as well, making them the first Yankees duo to do so in club history. Torres has 18 long balls on the season and 45 RBIs. Coming into tonight's contest, Torres was slashing .313/.388/.613 in 184 plate appearances, which has appropriately gained the 22-year-old All-Star consideration.
4) For the first time since April 20, Aaron Judge was in the Yankees lineup. The Yanks right fielder went 0-for-4 in the leadoff spot. The lineup positioning was interesting considering it was his first game back after a very long hiatus.
5) Adam Ottavino has not allowed an inherited runner to score since April 21, extending that streak tonight by stranding a runner at second base. In his 1 1/3 inning appearance, Ottavino struck out two batters, giving him 44 in 33 1/3 innings and the righty owns a stellar 1.62 ERA.
