The Yankees fell to the Los Angeles Angels, 4-3, on Monday night despite Aaron Judge hitting his league-leading 50th home run.

Here are the takeaways...

- Coming off his best start as a Yankee, Frankie Montas had an up-and-down start against the Angels. A lot of his pitches, especially the splitter, were up and that led to some hard-hit balls. He gave up a solo shot to Luis Rengifo in the second and almost gave one up to David Fletcher in the third.

Montas would give up a 2-1 lead in the fourth to a Mike Ford -- yes, former Yankees first baseman -- home run. The third Angels home run would come off the bat of Shohei Ohtani in the fifth after a two-out single from Mike Trout to give LA the 4-2 lead.

Montas' final line was: 6+ IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 6 SO on 91 pitches. In five starts with the Yankees, Montas has a 0-2 record and has given up 20 runs in 25.2 innings.

- The Yankees’ offense has been scuffling of late, scoring just three runs in their last two games. As a result, DJ LeMahieu used a sac bunt to plate Isiah Kiner-Falefa in the third inning and get the Bombers on the board.

- Anthony Rizzo, who was dropped to sixth in the lineup for the first time since 2011, launched his 29th home run of the season down the right field line to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead at the time.

Rizzo entered Monday’s game 6-for-23 in his last seven games. Although he went 1-for-4, that home run could be a catalyst for the struggling veteran.

- Clay Holmes returned from the IL on Monday and relieved Montas in the seventh inning. In his first action in weeks, Holmes struck out the first batter he faced, then induced a seemingly inning-ending double play to erase Montas' batter, but Gleyber Torres didn't have his foot on second when he fielded the toss from IKF and the Angels successfully challenged. No harm, no foul as Holmes got Trout to ground out to end the inning.

- When the offense is lost, call on Judge. After being intentionally walked twice earlier in the game, Judge came up in the eighth with one out and the bases empty. Judge would get a hold of a slider and send his 50th home run of the season to straight away center field.

Judge became just the 10th player in MLB history to have two 50-home run seasons. He had 52 in 2017.

- In the ninth, the combination of Jose Quijada and Jimmy Herget got the final three outs. Rizzo fouled out and Jose Trevino struck out. The pinch-hitting Josh Donaldson lined a single, but Oswaldo Cabrera drove a ball to center field that Trout tracked down to end the game. Following a five-game winning streak, the Yankees have now lost three straight.
