Non-stop boos for the Astros made for a good night for the Yankees, who won 7-3 on Tuesday night.
Here's a few takeaways from the game:
1. The Yankees faithful welcomed the Astros to The Bronx accordingly, letting boos rain down on the Houston offense from the first pitch of the game and on.
Jose Altuve and Michael Brantley were two quick outs for Domingo German, but Alex Bregman clapped back at the Yankees fans with a solo home run out to left field to kick start the game's scoring.
2. The top of the Yanks' order helped them respond right away. After DJ LeMahieu hit a lead-off single off Zack Greinke, Giancarlo Stanton sent his own moonshot out to left to give the Yankees a quick 2-1 lead.
It went on from there, as Greinke struggled and loaded up the bases with two walks and a base hit by Gio Urshela. Clint Frazier grounded into a double play, but Aaron Judge managed to score from third to make it 3-1.
3. The Astros finally got even with the Yankees in the fourth after a few quiet innings. First, Brantley crushes a solo home run to the front of the third deck out in right field.
Then after a Yordan Alvarez single, Yuli Gurriel hit a ball out to deep left that hit the highest point of the wall and missed Frazier's outstretched glove. The ball came back in play and resulted in an RBI double for Gurriel.
4. German exited after five innings of work, allowing three earned runs on four hits and one walk, while striking out six on 83 pitches.
He did allow the two home runs, bringing his season total to six.
5.. The game sat at 3-3 until the bottom of the sixth, when things got wild fast. With the bases loaded after two walks, a single and a fielders choice, LeMahieu hit a dribbler to third that actually turned into a tough throw for Bregman to make. He overthrew the ball and let the ensuing chaos begin, as LeMahieu went to second and all three runners scored on the error -- including Rougned Odor, who collided with catcher Martin Maldonado.
Both players went down after Odor's leg hit Maldonado's head as he ran towards home plate. Odor didn't slide because LeMahieu's bat was on the third base line in front of the plate, as none of the runners had moved it out of the way.
Odor and Maldonado both managed to eventually walk off the field with some help.
6. The Yankees had the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, but couldn't tack on any more runs -- though they didn't need to, as their 7-3 lead held for them to take the first game of the series.
Stanton finished with four hits on the night, bringing his hitting streak up to 10 games. He's hitting nearly .500 during the streak, and has brought his overall average up to .297 on the season.
