When international free agency in the MLB kicked off on Tuesday, the Yankees tabbed the top available prospect on the market in the Jasson Dominguez.

The 5-foot-10, 190-pound 16-year-old has scouts in awe of what he is able to do already, and MLB.com has even went as far as to call him "a teenage Mike Trout."

For Yankees international scouting director Donny Rowland, he couldn't believe what he saw from the Dominican Republic product. And in turn, a $5 million signing bonus came his way.

"It was a bit shocking and very impressive," Rowland told NorthJersey.com's Pete Caldera about Dominguez.

"He's the kind of player that kind of makes the hair on your arm stand up."

The comparison to Trout comes from Dominguez' center field position that he plays with five-tool talent. He obviously has more time to grow into his body, and Rowland said looking at what he can do now on the diamond "made going all-in on him an easy decision."

Dominguez' has been coined "El Marciano," which translates to "The Martian" because of his other-worldly talent. A switch hitter, Dominguez has recorded exit velocities at the plate over 110 mph already. He also has insane speed, reportedly clocking at 6.3 seconds in the 60-yard-dash. That's a tenth of a second slower than the current fastest man in the MLB in Billy Hamilton.

But as for the Trout comparison, Rowland doesn't want to hear it. Instead, he wants Dominguez to blossom into his own player.

"I don't like to put comparisons like that on a 16-year-old player," he explained. "I think he's going to be Jasson Dominguez and I don't want to put him in the same vein as some people who've done some incredible things in our game."

Off the field, Rowland noted Dominguez as being a very modest youngster that comes from a great family.

"He's humble," Rowland said. "When he receives praise, he kind of puts his head down and smiles. It's not like he's tryin to draw attention to himself."

Will all of this talent project when Dominguez beings his professional career? The Yankees certainly believe so, and Rowland knows their confidence in Dominguez is worth it.

"Every now and then the right player comes along," Rowland said. "This one's worth it. To a man, everyone on my staff agreed."
