Yankees RHP Domingo German has been placed on administrative leave by Major League Baseball under the joint MLB-MLBPA Domestic Violence Policy, the league announced Thursday.

Per MLB policy, the initial period of leave may last up to seven days -- barring an extension.

According to the league's release, "Major League Baseball's Department of Investigations has commenced an investigation into the matter that led to his placement on Administrative Leave."

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said before Thursday's game that he and GM Brian Cashman will address the team regarding the German situation.

Boone added that the Yankees will make their postseason plans with the thinking that German "may not be a part of it."

The Yankees also released a statement:

"We fully support all measures being undertaken by the Commissioner's Office pursuant to the Policy on Domestic Violence," the Yankees said. "We support this policy which reinforces that domestic violence has no place in our society and cannot be tolerated. We have followed the lead of Major League Baseball and will continue to provide our complete cooperation throughout the investigative process. We reserve any further comment until the investigation reaches its conclusion. All questions pertaining to this matter should be directed to the Office of the Commissioner."

German, 27, last pitched on Wednesday, when he allowed no runs on one hit while walking two and striking out two in 2.1 innings.

He has a 4.03 ERA and 1.15 WHIP with 153 strikeouts in 143.0 innings (24 starts, three relief appearances) this season.

With German placed on administrative league, the Yankees have signed RHP Michael King and selected his contract to the 25-man roster.
