On Thursday, it was announced that Yankees second baseman DJ LeMahieu has won the AL Silver Slugger Award.

It's the first Silver Slugger of LeMahieu's career, as it comes in his first season in the American League where he batted .327 and set career-highs in three major categories: 26 home runs, 33 doubles, and 102 RBI in 145 games.

LeMahieu can add this accolade to his long list of awards, including three Gold Gloves (2014, 2017, and 2018) and three All-Star appearances (2015, 2017, and 2019).

In a dominant hitting season, LeMahieu had a .375 on-base percentage and career-high .518 slugging percentage.

By winning the award for second base, LeMahieu breaks Astros star Jose Altuve's streak of five straight Silver Slugger Awards -- dating back to 2014. Prior to Altuve winning five-straight, former Yankees 2B Robinson Cano won the award four-straight seasons from 2010-2013.

The last Yankee to win a Silver Slugger was catcher Gary Sanchez in 2017

The Silver Slugger Award is given out annually to the best offensive player at each position in both the American League and National League, and voted by the coaches and managers.
