The Yankees dropped three straight games to the Boston Red Sox, and now the team is down DJ LeMahieu.
LeMahieu had an MRI on his groin and didn't play in the Yankees' 9-5 loss on Saturday.
Manager Aaron Boone said LeMahieu "felt some tightness" in the muscle on Friday, and then told reporters after the game on Saturday that LeMahieu has an "acute" groin strain and that his timetable to return is still up in the air. Boone also said that LeMahieu feels good and is seeing if he can try to play through the injury.
"It's pretty low-grade and we think it's something he can possibly play through," Boone said. "He certainly feels like he can."
"It's obviously been a rough week for us," Boone said on Friday following the Yanks' 10-5 loss to their rival.
It's still yet to be determined if LeMahieu needs to be added to the injury list. Giancarlo Stanton (knee), Brett Gardner (knee) and Gary Sanchez (groin) are among players already on the team's injured list.
LeMahieu leads the American League with a .322 batting average this season.
