Yankees manager Aaron Boone has a big problem with the fact Gleyber Torres isn't an All-Star.

The Yankees infielder, who ranks eighth in the American League in OPS and leads all AL second basemen in homers (19), wasn't selected to the AL All-Star roster on Sunday and wasn't among three roster replacements the league announced on Wednesday.

Before Wednesday's game against the Mets, Boone told reporters, "It's a joke he's not on that team. Gleyber Torres not an All-Star? You can kick rocks on that one. ... Doesn't seem right to me he's not on that team."

The 22-year-old has been among the top hitters in baseball this year. His .295 batting average is higher than Mike Trout's. His .363 on-base percentage is second only to teammate DJ LeMahieu, who was voted an All-Star starter, among AL second basemen.

Yet as of Wednesday, he won't be going to Cleveland for the All-Star Game festivities.

Among the players who were selected as reserves over Torres include Angels second baseman Tommy La Stella, Royals second baseman/outfielder Whit Merrifield and Athletics infielder Matt Chapman.

Torres was snubbed again Wednesday when the league announced Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe would replace the injured La Stella and Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts would replace the injured Hunter Pence on the AL roster.

Torres' batting line (.295/.363/.544) tops Lowe's (.276/.339/.523), and he has three more home runs and just one fewer RBI. Merrifield has a higher batting average (.307) than Torres, but has a lower on-base percentage (.355) and slugging percentage (.501).

Bogaerts' batting line (.301/.392/.541), on the other hand, tops Torres'.

It should be known that while Merrifield is the Royals' only All-Star representative, the Rays are also represented by Austin Meadows and Charlie Morton.

The Yankees have three players who are currently All-Stars, as LeMahieu and catcher Gary Sanchez were voted in by the fans and closer Aroldis Chapman was also selected.

Torres, meanwhile, said he wasn't focused on whether or not the league considered him an All-Star.

"I don't control that situation," he said, according to the New York Post's George A. King III. "I put up really good numbers to make the team. I don't have the last word. I knew I put up good numbers and if it doesn't happen, I will take those days for rest."
