Here are the latest Yankees trade rumors and buzz ahead of the 2022 MLB trade deadline...

Aug. 2, 5:58 p.m.

Right before the buzzer, the Yankees reached a deal with the St. Louis Cardinals to send Jordan Montgomery in exchange for Harrison Bader, according to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Lindsey Adler.

Aug. 2, 2:42 p.m.

The Yankees have dealt Joey Gallo to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for their 15th-best prospect RHP Clayton Beeter, Sports Illustrated's Pat Ragazzo first reported.

Gallo's days in the Bronx have been numbered for quite awhile, especially after the addition of Andrew Benintendi. The trade the Yanks thought they made for the betterment of the franchise this time last year did not pan out as they expected, with Gallo hitting well below the Mendoza line in 140 games in pinstripes, while striking out 194 times during that span.

Aug. 2, 1:47 p.m.

The Yankees have expressed interest in Brett Phillips and Ji-Man Choi of the Tampa Bay Rays, according to SNY's Andy Martino.

Phillips was designated for assignment by the Rays on Monday.

Choi, a former Yankee, is slashing .257/.355/.415 with eight homers and 46 RBI in 75 games for the Rays this season.

Aug. 1, 9:00 p.m.

Joey Gallo is not expected to be a member of the Yankees come Tuesday at 6 p.m., when the deadline ultimately passes, YES Network's Jack Curry explained during Monday's game between New York and the Seattle Mariners.

"Reached out to some folks throughout the afternoon and asked about that, and the answer you always get when you talk about Brian Cashman and his staff is they're always looking," Curry said when asked about the possibility of the Yankees making another move. "The Yankees have the best record in the American League right now, and look at all of the moves they made to try and better themselves.

"But the word that I'm getting, (YES Network play-by-play announcer) Michael (Kay), is that the (Los Angeles) Dodgers and the (St. Louis) Cardinals are the two teams that have the best chance to potentially get (Washington Nationals outfielder Juan) Soto. So when you're asking if the Yankees are going to do something dramatic like that, I would lean towards no.

"But do I see a move like a Joey Gallo being shed? Yes, I do. I would expect that by this time tomorrow, Joey Gallo is not a member of the Yankees. So I don't think that they're done because there's at least that one move looming."

Gallo, after the Yankees' trade for Andrew Benintendi, acknowledged this past week the likelihood of being traded.

"Every time I see a Yankees hat, every time I see a Yankees jersey, it's something I'm going to have to understand," Gallo said, via The Athletic's Lindsey Adler. "I didn't play well as a Yankee. I wish I had."

Aug. 1, 1:15 p.m.

SNY's Andy Martino reports that after making a trade for reliever Scott Effross, the Yankees remain "very much after" Frankie Montas, the A's starter.

Martino adds that the Yanks are likely willing to let Oswald Peraza go in a deal.

Aug. 1, 1:03 p.m.

The Angels are holding on to superstar Shohei Ohtani, reports the New York Post’s Jon Heyman. But the Yankees were among teams that issued an offer to Los Angeles.

It’s unknown what the offer was but they were among teams like the Padres and White Sox that gave serious thought to landing the pitcher-slugger combo.

Aug. 1, 12:58 p.m.

Giants All-Star starter Carlos Rodon is on the Yankees' radar as they continue to search for starting pitching, per NJ.com's Brendan Kuty.

The problem with Rodon is health, though, as he's dealt with numerous arm-related problems in the past. He can also opt out at the end of the season, so the Yankees would have to be careful with their package to San Francisco.

Rodon has been great this season, with a 3.00 ERA in 21 starts.

Aug. 1, 12:51 p.m.

The Yankees have added bullpen help, trading for Cubs RHP Scott Effross.

Effross, a sidearm thrower, loves his slider as he tosses it at a 40 percent clip. His chase rate of 35 percent is in the 96th percentile in MLB, which is why he owns a 2.66 ERA so far this season.

With the losses of Michael King and Chad Green, it was expected the Yanks would make a move in this area. They gave up RHP Hayden Wesneski, a sixth round pick from 2019.

July 31, 12:28 p.m.

The Yankees and Brewers have had talks about a potential Joey Gallo transaction, per The New York Post's Jon Heyman

Milwaukee reportedly wanted Andrew Benintendi, but the Yanks swooped in there. The Brewers could believe Gallo just needs a scenery change, and they need some outfield help.

July 29, 10:45 p.m.

With earlier reports indicating the Mariners had their focus set on Luis Castillo, the M's have now landed one of the biggest available pieces ahead of the trade deadline.

The Mariners have acquired the right-hander in a blockbuster deal, sending INF Noelvi Marte, INF Edwin Arroyo, RHP Levi Stoudt, and RHP Andrew Moore to the Reds.

Now, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman, the Yankees' sights are set on Oakland A's righty Frankie Montas, though Jose Quintana is also in the mix.

July 29, 10:50 a.m.

The Seattle Mariners are looking to upgrade their rotation, and Cincinnati Reds ace Luis Castillo "seems to be their main focus and target," reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

The Mariners, who are in second place in the AL West, are currently in position for the second Wild Card spot.

The Yanks have serious interest in Castillo, with SNY's Andy Martino reporting earlier this week that his educated guess is that GM Brian Cashman would be willing to trade shortstop prospect Oswald Peraza in a deal for either Castillo or Oakland A's starter Frankie Montas.

Castillo has one more year of team control after this season, and is eligible to become a free agent after the 2023 campaign.

July 27, 10:40 p.m.

The Yankees acquired OF Andrew Benintendi in a trade with the Kansas City RoyalsThe Yanks sent RHP Chandler Champlain, LHP T.J. Sikkema, and RHP Beck Way to Kansas City.

Sikkema ranked as the team's No. 19 prospect and Way checks in at No. 21 in the Yankees system, according to MLB.com. Champlain was not ranked.

Benintendi, 28, is slashing .321/.389/.399 with three home runs and 39 RBI so far this season. He recently was not able to join the Royals in Toronto due to his vaccination status.

July 27, 9:53 a.m.

The Nationals are talking with several teams about a potential Juan Soto trade, GM Mike Rizzo said Wednesday during a radio appearance.

But Rizzo noted that the Nats will not "dilute" the potential package they get back for Soto by asking their trade partner to take on a bad contract.

There had been some buzz that the Nats would look to include either Patrick Corbin or Stephen Strasburg in a Soto deal in order to rid themselves of salary.

While the Yanks have interest in Soto, multiple reports peg the current favorites as the San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinals.

SNY's Andy Martino wondered Tuesday if the Yanks/Soto buzz is a smokescreen to provide cover for GM Brian Cashman as he looks to bolster the starting rotation via trade.

July 26, 4:57 p.m.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand believes if the Yankees do make a big splash before the deadline, "it's going to be for Luis Castillo or Frankie Montas."

The Yankees' rotation has some questions considering Luis Severino's IL stint and Jameson Taillon not being as consistent as he was earlier this season. While Feinsand sees an outfielder being a given, he thinks the biggest concern is that rotation question.

He added that Oswald Peraza, the Yankees third-best prospect, would likely headline a deal for Castillo or Montas.

July 26, 10:10 a.m.

With the trade deadline looming and the Nationals on the clock to find a suitor for Juan Soto, a few teams have emerged as favorites to land the young outfielder.

ESPN's Jeff Passan is reporting that while the Yankees and Dodgers have the "talent, money and motivation to make a worthwhile offer" the Padres and Cardinals are considered favorites for a "right-now" trade because of their litany of major league-ready talent.

SNY's Andy Martino says the Yankees are "very much in" on Soto and of the two New York teams, the Bombers have more traction this week.

July 22, 11:58 a.m.

The Houston Astros have "keen interest" in trading for Cincinnati Reds ace Luis Castillo, reports Jon Heyman of The New York Post.

The Post lists the Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers among the favorites for Castillo.

Additionally, Heyman notes that it's difficult to envision the Reds trading Castillo to the NL Central rival St. Louis Cardinals.

July 15, 8:30 a.m.

The Luis Castillo sweepstakes are getting hot, and the Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers are among the frontrunners to acquire him, says Jon Heyman of the Post.

The Yanks are atop the list of potential Castillo suitors, despite their unwillingness to part ways with top shortstop prospects Anthony Volpe or Oswald Peraza, says Heyman.

Castillo pitched in the Bronx on Thursday night against the Yankees, and allowed just one run on two hits while walking four and striking out eight in seven innings.

New York has gone after Castillo "on and off" in recent years, but with the Reds' firesale over the offseason that has led to an awful season (despite winning two of three in the Bronx), the Castillo trade chatter has been hot and heavy this trade deadline season.

July 14, 11:13 a.m.

After spending his first five seasons with the Yankees, Tyler Wade is on his way back to the Bronx, reports SNY's Andy Martino.

ESPN's Jeff Passan was first to report the trade.

The Yankees are acquiring the utilityman from the Los Angeles Angels, who DFA'd him earlier in the month, for a player to be named later. He will be sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

July 14, 10:39 a.m.

The Yankees are unlikely to pursue a trade for Kansas City Royals OF Andrew Benintendi because Benintendi is not vaccinated against COVID-19, reports Jon Heyman of The New York Post

Benintendi being unvaccinated means that he is not permitted to enter Canada, which prevents him from playing road games against the Toronto Blue Jays. Benintendi is among 10 Royals players who are unvaccinated and will miss Kansas City's upcoming series in Toronto.

Yankees players are fully vaccinated.

The Yanks have three more games in Toronto this season, and could also meet them in the playoffs.

July 11, 6:18 p.m.

The Yankees are looking at trading for Kansas City Royals outfielder Michael A. Taylor, reports Jon Morosi.

Taylor has had a resurgence in Kansas City this year -- the 2021 Gold Glove Award winner is hitting .265 with a .724 OPS, both the second-best marks of his career. His .342 on-base percentage is a career-high.

Taylor has only played center field since the start of the 2021 season, so bringing him in would likely leave Giancarlo Stanton or Aaron Hicks in left field and Aaron Judge back in his natural position in right -- and who knows what would happen with Joey Gallo, because he is easily the worst of the four outfielders listed above. The Yanks are also are looking into Taylor's teammate Andrew Benintendi.

July 10, 11:03 a.m.

The Yankees have talked about acquiring Andrew Benintendi from the Kansas City Royals, according to The New York Post.

Benintendi, rightfully, a hot commodity at the moment, as he has one year left on a deal with a team that has zero postseason hope.

Simultaneously, the Yanks have begun gauging the interest for Joey Gallo

Outfield has been an area of speculation where the Yanks can make improvements despite still owning the best record in baseball. Gallo, who continues to struggle at the dish, is a main reason that has been in play for quite some time now.

A contact-first hitter, Benintendi is hitting .317/.387/.402 with a .789 OPS in 82 games this season.
