The curious case of Jacoby Ellsbury took another turn on Wednesday.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone revealed at his Spring Training opening press conference that the oft-injured outfielder will not be with the team at the onset of camp.

Boone said Ellsbury is battling issues with his plantar fascia as he recovers from the hip surgery he underwent late last season and has not begun baseball activities.

"He's making good progress but he's going to stay in Arizona the next couple of weeks," Boone said. "When he's ready for baseball activities, which we believe he will be at some time in March, he will join us."

The 35-year-old outfielder missed all of last season with myriad of injuries that culminated in hip surgery that shut him down for the season.

Ellsbury has two years, $42 million remaining on his salary but finds himself in a crowded Yankees outfield that consists of Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Hicks, Brett Gardner and Clint Frazier.
