There still seems to be so much up in the air regarding when, how, and where Major League Baseball will get its 2020 season underway, though optimism does seem to be growing.
As SNY's Andy Martino reported earlier this week, there are as many as 15 different "plans" currently under discussion for play to resume, and nothing seems to be concrete just yet.
But while MLB continues to come up with different contingencies, it sounds like the Yankees are expecting some of their players to return to Tampa, the team's spring training site, in the near future.
According to a report by Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News, two sources around George M. Steinbrenner Field have been told to expect "some" players to return to the facility "as soon as next week."
The report points out that Florida governor Ron DeSantis is allowing the state's "Safe at Home" orders to expire, allowing businesses throughout Florida to gradually reopen.
This report comes on the heels of a USA Today story that mentioned the possibility of teams resuming spring training at their home stadiums, rather than in Florida or Arizona at their spring training facilities.
But with strict social distancing limitations still in place in cities like New York, players could elect to head to Florida (or stay in Florida, as some players chose to) in order to work out at a team facility.
While some reports have pointed to late June/early July as a starting point for the 2020 regular season, there's no official Opening Day set at this time, but it sounds like MLB could be nearing a decision in the next few weeks.
"In a few weeks," one source told SNY's Andy Martino, "they'll go with the one that makes the most sense at that time."
